HOUSTON, Texas  (May 18, 2020) –  In an effort to give back to the community which has given her so much and the school which first sparked her love of science, Accel Lifestyle founder and CEO Megan Eddings is proud to announce the creation of an annual scholarship to benefit Coventry High School seniors planning to pursue a STEM degree.

In an effort to keep her startup fitness apparel company afloat at the beginning of the pandemic, Eddings pivoted – using her exclusive, anti-bacterial Prema® fabric to manufacture Prema® Anti-Bacterial Face Masks. Accel Lifestyle has not only survived during the pandemic, it has thrived. Accel Lifestyle has supplied hundreds of thousands of Prema® Anti-Bacterial Face Masks to hospitals, the US Navy, as well as the general public. The support from Eddings’ home state of Rhode Island has been especially profound. Sales in the state skyrocketed following news reports about Accel Lifestyle’s efforts. Now, continuing her tradition of giving back, Eddings made the decision to create the Accel Lifestyle, LLC scholarship at her alma mater – the place where her passion for science first began.

“I absolutely loved my experience at Coventry High School. Tenth-grade chemistry is where I fell in love with science and I knew that this would be the field I would pursue,” said Eddings, who used her science background to develop her proprietary Prema® fabric. “I did not know what I would do with chemistry, but I just knew I had a passion for chemistry and the reactions that happen all around us. Having the opportunity to give back to Coventry High in the form of two scholarships warms my heart and makes me smile.”

The annual scholarship created through the CHS Alumni Association will be awarded each year to two students who plan to pursue a degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) and who have demonstrated a focus on giving back to their community. This year, both recipients will receive $2,500.

“When I was a senior, I was the recipient of a $500 scholarship. It may not seem like much, but at that time in my life, $500 felt like $5 million,” Eddings said. “Now, through this scholarship, I am thrilled to pay-it-foward and give that same feeling to deserving students.”

The winners of the 2020 Accel Lifestyle, LLC scholarship will be announced on YouTube during a virtual awards ceremony from Coventry Town Hall Thursday, May 21, 2020, at 6 p.m.
