BLOCK ISLAND, RI  (June 30, 2020) –  While the Fourth of July on Block Island will be different this year, one thing will remain the same – Ballard’s commitment to fun, community and island values. To that end, we are excited to announce we will be holding the Block Island Country Hang Out on Independence Day weekend.

Just like our annual Block Island Country Fest – Country Hang Out on July 5, 2020 will feature amazing country bands, fresh pineapple drinks and our VIP Cabanas. However, unlike years past, this scaled back event will feature smaller crowds and no dancing – just a day on the beach with great music. As always, Ballard’s is committed to the safety of our guests and staff, and will be following all safety precautions recommended by the state and the CDC.

While Block Island Country Hang Out is a free event, Ballard’s will be collecting a $10 donation with 100% of the proceeds going to Block Island Volunteer Fire & Rescue and The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation –  both are local charities hit hard during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Due to the pandemic, Block Island Volunteer Fire & Rescue had to cancel its annual steak fry on July 4th. This event typically raises enough money to support the organization throughout the year.

“Not only do we hope to replace the money this vital organization is losing from the cancelation of this fundraiser, but we also want to show our support for those working on the front lines during this pandemic and their service to Block Island as a whole,” said Steve Filippi, owner of Ballard’s Beach Resort and president of the Block Island Tourism Council.

The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation has also felt a financial sting from the pandemic. Donations are down for this crucial statewide agency and it has not been able to hold fundraisers that enable it to operate and support those in need.

“We are family on Block Island. While times are challenging right now, we firmly believe our commitment to island values will help us not only get through this, but come out stronger in the end,” Filippi said. “It’s the Block Island way.”

Block Island Country Hang Out will be held July 5 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Ballard’s Beach Resort. Line-up includes:

  • Steve Daggett
  • Houston Bernard
  • Presley and Taylor
  • Chris Ruediger
  • Barefoot Rebel  (Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band)
