Finetco and Providence College Partner to Bridge Connections Between Athletes and Students at Coventry High School

COVENTRY, RI  (October 14, 2025) Finetco, A Family of Lumberyards, in collaboration with Providence College, is proud to announce a unique event titled “A Conversation With Friars.”  This engaging initiative will take place at Coventry High School on October 20, 2025 and aims to bridge connections between aspiring young athletes and accomplished collegiate players.

The event will feature Providence College’s Men’s Basketball Coach Kim English alongside Athletic Director, Steve Napolillo, with prominent men’s basketball players, Jason Edwards, Jaylin Sellers and Duncan Powell, all graduate students, who will share their personal journeys and their growth both on and off the court.  Students will gain valuable insight into the challenges and triumphs of life as a college athlete.

Event Agenda:

  • Welcome and Introductions:  Event tips-off with warm welcome and introductions from Earl A. Read, III, teacher at Coventry High School,  to include the “Let’s Go Friar” chant.
  • Shootaround and Interactive Games:  Students may have the opportunity to engage in a shootaround with the PC players, allowing them to practice their skills with PC in a fun and relaxed setting.
  • Panel Discussion and Q & A:  Students will hear firsthand accounts from the Providence College Men’s Basketball players and Athletic Director, followed by an open question-and-answer session to encourage dialogue and a deeper understanding of the student-athlete experience.
  • Friendly Game of Knockout:  PC Players may invite student volunteers for a friendly competition – this game of knockout  will wrap up the event, providing a platform for cordial competition and camaraderie.

“Providence College Athletics appreciates the opportunity to join Finetco to speak to the students at Coventry High School,” Providence College Athletic Director Steve Napolillo said.  “An important part of being a Providence College student-athlete is giving back to the community and understanding the value of giving back. Finetco and the Finnegan family have been special partners and friends of PC Athletics. We are grateful for their support and generosity and how they believe in the mission of supporting the community.”

This event not only highlights the talents of Providence College’s men’s basketball program but also serves as a bridge between high school students and collegiate athletics, fostering connections and aspirations for the future.

“We are proud to partner with Providence College to bring this inspiring program to the students of Coventry High School,” said Bill Finnegan, owner of Finetco.  “By sharing their stories, our hope is that these remarkable athletes will motivate and encourage students to pursue their dreams, both in sports and beyond.”

The “A Conversation With Friars” event is free and open to Coventry High School students, and we encourage as many students as possible to participate in this unique opportunity to learn, interact, and be inspired.  The event will be held in the all new C. Arthur Flori Gym at Coventry High School and tips-off at 9AM with a conclusion at 10:30AM.

“We’re very excited to welcome Providence College and Finetco to Coventry High School,” said Coventry School Department Athletic Director Joseph Fargnoli.  “It’s not every day our students get to meet athletes of this caliber and hear about what it really takes to succeed, both on the court, and in life.”
